Johanna von Hertzen is a determined artist and a strong performer, for whom text and interpretation are the most important part of her own music. A recognizable imprint in the lyrics and its own sound gives room for playing with different genres.
Music has been an important part of her life since childhood. While traveling with her saxophonist father’s gigs, a love for music was born. While reading the author-mother’s texts, a passion arose also for creative writing.
Johanna von Hertzen’s lyrics have been described as “the kind of lyrics that aren’t made up. They have to be lived”.
The debut album Kasuaalii (“Casual”, released in April 2020) is a band-driven pop rock. It’s brave, sensitive and emotionally deep.
Other members of the band: Sami Selei (@samselei), Sam Keys (@synpsa), Aki Pommelin (@andy_9550) and Tuukka Hanhiniemi (@tuha_).
Why it is important for me to be a part of
Europe for Ukraine:
The main reason I write songs is to express feelings. Why? Because my own experience is that whenever I feel lost, down or anyway in the middle of any life crisis I listen to music. It can’t heal or solve everything, but definitely it can make you feel better.
Music makes people feel heard, understood and supported. Those feelings are exactly what I’m sure every artist in this project wants to deliver to Ukraine right now.
I’m very grateful to be part of this project together with wonderful musicians around Europe.
